VIX

VIX showed bearish TRADE TREND yesterday, so it shouldn’t be a surprise that it’s down again today. We are now approaching the low end of the RANGE. The signals were not saying buy the dip — they were saying the market was stabilizing, so hold the strongest longs. I still don’t see “buy the dip” in equities.

MOVE

Big move in the MOVE as the rate hike satisfied the market and helped it calm down. The low end of the RANGE has now crossed below TREND. The last thing price needs to do is flip back to bearish TREND to stabilize the bond market.

HYG

Credit still has a lot of work to do to flip bullish TREND, so there is still some risk in markets.

SPY

SPY looks like most of the strongest sectors in the market: bearish TRADE, bullish TREND. That’s why I wasn’t buying the dip. Now I’m waiting for the market to decide whether it wants to flip bullish TRADE TREND or bearish TRADE TREND. When you can see the full fractal math, you know exactly what to do — buy, add, reduce, exit, or hold.

XLV

Look familiar? This is a hold from back in June.

XLF

XLF is a bit weaker. The next few closes will determine whether I should hold or exit. This is a weaken signal on the margin, but it hasn’t quite broken yet. Be ready to cut on a moment’s notice when a signal looks like this.

IGV

Software is one of the few sectors holding bullish TRADE TREND, but I don’t add when price and TRADE are in the middle of the RANGE.

XLE

XLE was the only sector in bullish TRADE TREND at the low end of the RANGE, and it was the only place I was buying the dip yesterday. Today it is up.

AAPL

AAPL is holding bullish TRADE TREND but won’t be a buy until the low end of the RANGE at 319.16.

XLU

Good thing the signal works both ways, as Utilities are down again on the day.

XLP

Same with XLP.

Macro Markets

DXY

The Dollar is holding bullish TRADE TREND, which is a very important signal to keep an eye on up here. Note that TREND is near the top end of the RANGE, so fractal flows are bullish, but it still has the top end of the RANGE to fight to keep it.

TLT

Bonds didn’t even make it to the top end of the RANGE on the rate hike and are now rolling over again. No change to the signal: bearish TRADE TREND.

QAT

When you only act when tickers are at the top end of the RANGE in bearish TRADE TREND, or the bottom of the RANGE in bullish TRADE TREND, these are generally the results — picture-perfect price action. Sell some down here today.

COM

Bullish TRADE TREND at the low end of the RANGE. This is where you buy the dip as TLT holds its bearish TRADE TREND (inflation trades).

GLD

Gold held its bullish TREND, but TRADE is becoming more bearish. This is a hold.

BTC

Yet another bullish TRADE TREND at the low end of the RANGE working out. You absolutely should be fully positioned in Bitcoin for this monster rally on the day. Equities do not have the same signal, and that was abundantly obvious if you have the full fractal math on your screen.
